Stories about {sustainable} stones

About

A little insight into who I am and why I write about jewelry.

Why a few little gems?

I started A Few Little Gems in 2016 to explore our relationships with jewelry and with each other. I’ve talked to some amazing humans about the stories behind their favorite pieces and have had the privilege of hearing about great loves, triumphs overcome, beloved family members and traditions, and hopes for the future.

These stories have confirmed my long-held theory that jewelry can imbue us with super powers. Like a suit of armor, by slipping on a beloved ring or pair of earrings, we can conquer the world. It can connect us to our loved ones, or the love we have for ourselves. Or it can transport us to that time, in that tiny seaside village, when we stumbled upon the most enchanting vintage shop. And that’s why I love jewelry so much.

It’s also why I want this to be a place of celebration for sustainable and ethical jewelry. I explore what that means, how it’s achieved and how we can do more to help an industry inspired by the beauty of the natural world, give back to it. Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s necessary.

I hope to pass along some nuggets of wisdom along the way, or ‘a few little gems,’ as I’ve always liked to call them.

xx Lo
